MY WORKSHOP
My workshop is a part of the Lithgow State Mine Museum. The building in which I work is a hundred years old and was the blacksmiths shop for the State Mine which closed in 1964. It’s a typical industrial building of its age, brick walls, a tin roof supported by heavy timber trusses and large, beautiful windows. It’s built into a hill side, lovely in summer, a bit chilly in winter.
The Lithgow State Mine Museum is open on weekends and school holidays. museum@statemine.org.au
Fire inside
Winter. Winter is a challenging time in that the workshop, perfect in summer, is an ice box in winter. There is no dilly dallying, straight to work. I go outside to think.
Fire outside
In the time I’ve worked at the State Mine the site has been threatened by two large bush fires. Each event has made me realise how much I enjoy this place and appreciate the museum volunteers and, of course the RFS.
